Created by Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, Kirsten Beyer, and Alex Kurtzman, Star Trek: Picard is an American television series. It is the eighth Star Trek series and was launched in 2020 as part of Kurtzman’s expanded Star Trek Universe.
Star Trek: Picard premiered on CBS All Access on January 23, 2020, and its first season ran for 10 episodes until March 26. The second season was released on Paramount+ from March 3 to May 5, 2022, with the third and final season expected to premiere soon.
So, when the upcoming season is releasing? What is the plot? Who would come back to reprise their roles? Continue reading to know further details.
Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Release Date
The third season of Picard was kind of green-lit back in 2020 after the first season debuted. Despite not having the official go-ahead from Paramount, some scenes for a third series were shot during Picard season 2, with filming ‘officially’ beginning in September 2021.
Star Trek: Picard season 3 officially has a release date of February 16, 2023. From there onwards, the season’s 10 episodes will continue to air weekly on Thursdays. The tenth and final episode of the season will be the final episode of Star Trek: Picard.
Star Trek: Picard Plot and Cast

More specific plot points remain elusive for now, although Stewart did tease that season three could be the most interesting of all:
“When I read for the first time the ending of season two, I do remember one of the things that I said was, ‘Where the hell are we going to go from here?’ Because it almost seemed that there was a conclusion. I wondered for a moment, ‘Oh dear, are we going to be wrapped early, and the show will disappear?’ But we did not. And season three, in many respects, proved to me to be among the most interesting of episodes and moments that we had in the whole show.”
But what does the future hold beyond that? Well, comments by Sir Patrick seemingly put a full stop to the world past the final batch of episodes. “I think that Picard has said his last sentence and given his last look at his colleagues,” he told Variety. “I think the way we close season three is perfect. Perfect. It makes me emotional each time I think of it, but it’s great.”
Following the events of season two, we expect the following cast members will return for Picard season three, including Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, Michelle Hurd as Rafaella “Raffi” Musiker, and Evan Evagora as Elnor, and Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine.
Thankfully, some very special cast members have been lined up to take their place. These include LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner.
