‘The Phantom Apprentice”, the latest episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars contains plenty of easter eggs. At this point, the show almost overlaps ‘Revenge of The Sith’. Episode 10 of Season 7 depicts Maul’s losing streak. Ominous foreshadowing can also be observed here. Much to the fans’ delight, one can notice plenty of references to the other parts of the Star Wars Saga in this episode. Some of these are listed below:
Title of the episode
The title of this episode itself is a play on the title of the first Star Wars episode, ‘The Phantom Apprentice’. But, this title can also be interpreted as a reference to both Ahsoka Tano and Darth Maul. The characters exist outside the traditional Jedi orders, and they end up being much like phantoms.
Anakin Skywalker’s metamorphosis
This episode seems to hint that Anakin will inevitably transform into Darth Vader. Anakin’s murder of Count Doku serves as the first step in this transformation. Anakin also spied on the Supreme Chancellor. Maul’s vision of Anakin only seems to solidify this claim. Hence, Anakin continues in this dark descent.

Jesse: The Clone Trooper
The trooper captured and tortured by Maul is Jesse, the clone trooper. Generally seen with Captain Rex, Jesse has made appearances in several episodes of the show. He is good-natured and humorous. These traits make watching the scene must harder from an emotional perspective.
The parallel between Ahsoka and Luke Skywalker
The battle between Maul and Ahsoka that occurs in this episode is reminiscent of Luke’s duel with Darth Vader from ‘The Empire Strikes Back’. In Darth Vader’s duel with Luke, he wanted Luke to help him conquer the galaxy. Similarly, in his duel with Ahsoka, he wants her to help him take down Darth Sidious.
