Supermarket Sweep Season 1 – Recent Updates
Plans for the revival of Supermarket Sweep were first announced in 2017, when FreeMantle Media announced their plans to bring back the game show to television. At that time, no network took over the show, and after almost 2 years of negotiations, ABC nabbed the rights in January 2020 to bring the show to their network. The first season of the revived Supermarket Sweep is produced by FreeMantle Media. The series received a 10-episode order in the spring of 2020, and filming began subsequently.
On shooting the show during an ongoing global pandemic, executive producer Alycia Rossiter mentioned the precautions and all the safety measures they had to undertake in order to shoot the show during the summer.
“We cleaned that store like crazy in between every round. The only people who were allowed to not have masks were Leslie and the contestants. We felt safe and joyful. We want it to be received with fun and joy. The grocery workers have kept us alive for the last six months and want to celebrate them.”
Supermarket Sweep will premiere on October 18, 2020.
