TBS announced that The Misery Index has been picked up for a third season.
The Misery Index is an American television comedy game show developed for TBS. The show, based on the card game “Shit Happens,” is hosted by Jameela Jamil, and stars the four members of The Tenderloins comedy troupe who also star in truTV Impractical Jokers.
TBS has tweeted “More laughs. More fun. And of course, more misery. We’re officially returning this October with all-new episodes, and also renewed for a THIRD season! Brace yourself — it’s gonna be a wild time. #TheMiseryIndex”
The main game consists of three rounds that involve rating and ranking miserable true stories. Ratings are on a numerical scale of 1 to 100, as determined by a panel of psychologists, and are based on the “Three Pillars of Misery”: physical pain, emotional trauma, and long-term psychological impact. At the start of each episode, each contestant relates a story of his/her own whose rating is never revealed.
“At a time when we’re all craving shared experiences and connecting with friends, our shows in January and February help fulfil that need,” said Brett Weitz, general manager for TNT, TBS and truTV. “Our diverse lineup leans into the camaraderie of friendship, fun escapism, and critically acclaimed dramas that bring people together. Across all three networks, we continue to push the boundaries of storytelling to entertain audiences around the country with compelling characters and outstanding series from the industry’s best creators.”
The comedic series is hosted by Jameela Jamil , which features two teams, each made up of one contestant with two members of the Impractical Jokers. On a scale of 1-100, based on a ranking system created by therapists, teams face-off by attempting to rate hilarious and miserable real-life events.
