The Biggest Loser features overweight contestants who aim to win a cash prize by losing the highest percentage of weight relative to their initial weight. The first seventeen seasons of the show aired on NBC from 2004 to 2016. After a four year hiatus, the show returned for the eighteenth season, which aired on USA Network in January 2020. The eighteenth season was hosted by Bob Harper, who had served as a trainer on previous seasons, and was also the host of the final season on NBC. The official synopsis of the show on USA’s website reads-
“12 people who have struggled with weight their entire lives compete to lose the excuses, lose the fear and ultimately, lose the most weight. For the winner, there’s $100,000 but for all the contestants there’s the chance of a long-term, healthy lifestyle in this new and updated version of the hit format. With the help of host Bob Harper and trainers Erica Lugo and Steve Cook, the contestants will face a series of tough challenges – physical, mental, and emotional – which will change the way they eat, think, and move. Who will have the will-power to win the money AND win back their life?”
The Biggest Loser: What we know so far about Season 19
The format of the 18th season of The Biggest Loser that aired on USA was different from the first seventeen in terms of the temptation challenges and the voting criteria for elimination. All voting was eliminated, and contestants got eliminated only on the basis of weight loss. The latest season focused on not only educating the contestants about the benefits of weight loss but also about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. This was something that the NBC seasons had received a lot of flak for, and something that USA introduced in their version.
The show was well-received by its fans, who have been watching the show since it first aired. They have also been asking about the renewal of the show for another season. Although there has been no official announcement by USA as of now, fans are hopeful that the show will return, and it only makes sense that it will, considering the viewership numbers that The Biggest Loser has always had.
In all likelihood, season 19 of The Biggest Loser might air sometime in early 2021. We can also expect Bob Harper to be back as the host and also Erica Lugo and Steve Cook to return as trainers on season 19 of The Biggest Loser.
