The Craft released in 1996 and became an instant surprise hit. The film grossed $55 million on a budget of only $15 million, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. Over the years, the supernatural horror flick has gained a cult following. The first film was directed by Andrew Fleming and distributed by Columbia Pictures. The rights of the second film, which will be a reboot, have been acquired by Blumhouse Productions.
The Craft 2- What we know so far
The sequel was announced in 2016 by Sony Pictures. This announcement gave way for many speculations and theories on whether the film would be a remake or twenty years later from the first film. The news, however, attracted quite a lot of negative publicity from the fans of the first film.
In March of 2019, it was announced that the film will be a reboot of the first film. It will be distributed by Columbia Pictures and produced by Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions. When the film was announced, Leigh Janiak was supposed to be directing the sequel. The producer of the first film, Douglas Wick had said that it would be more of a sequel than a remake.
“There will be callbacks to the original movie, so you will see there is a connection between what happened in the days of The Craft, and how these young women come across this magic many years later.”
Cast and Release Date of The Craft 2
The reboot of The Craft will be written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones. Daniel Casey will be penning the screenplay. Andrew Fleming, who directed the previous film, will be serving as executive producer on the reboot. Since the film is a reboot, we won’t be seeing the original cast of Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True back in their respective roles.
The new cast of the film includes Cailee Spaeny, Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, and Zoey Luna taking up the mantle of the four main lead roles. Nicholas Galitzine, David Duchovny, and Michelle Monaghan have also been cast in the film.
Production of the film began in October 2019, however, there has been no official release date announced yet.
