Created and principally written by Peter Morgan, The Crown is a historical drama streaming television series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Morgan developed it from his drama film The Queen and his stage play The Audience.

The show is produced by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television for Netflix. A new season is scheduled for release this year.

The Crown Season 5: Plot and Cast

The first season covers the period from Elizabeth’s marriage to Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947 to the disintegration of her sister Princess Margaret’s engagement to Group Captain Peter Townsend in 1955. The next season covers the period from the Suez Crisis in 1956 to the retirement of Prime Minister Harold Macmillan in 1963 and the birth of Prince Edward in 1964.

Season 3 spans from 1964 to 1977, and includes Harold Wilson’s two periods as prime minister, and introduces Camilla Shand. The fourth season spans around 1979 to the early 1990s and includes Margaret Thatcher’s tenure as prime minister and Prince Charles’s marriage to Lady Diana Spencer. The fifth and sixth seasons, which will close the series, will cover the Queen’s reign into the 21st century.

The main cast includes Imelda Staunton, Jonathan Pryce, Lesley Manville, Jonny Lee Miller, Flora Montgomery, Dominic West, Elizabeth Debicki, Marcia Warren, Olivia Williams and Claudia Harrison. We would also get to see James Murray, Emma Laird Craig, Sam Woolf, Andrew Havill, Natascha McElhone and Senan West.

The Crown’s previous seasons received a positive response from critics and audiences. The upcoming fifth season is anticipated to release in November 2022.

The Crown Season 5 will be available for streaming on Netflix. Those who want to watch the show can purchase a Netflix subscription which is available at a rate of Rs. 149 to Rs. 649.
