The Dark Tower TV series will not be available on Amazon. The streaming service canceled the show. Glen Mazzara would have produced great content if the show was given the green signal! The show was based on a series of eight books and one short story written by Stephen King. The story is very interesting and is a cross-genre! It includes themes from various genres like dark fantasy, science fantasy, and horror. The original books follow the story of a gunslinger and his quest to a tower.
One adaptation of the books hit the theatres in 2017. The movie starred Idris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as The Man In Black. This film did not do justice to Stephen King’s books and suffered at the box office!
Glen Mazzara- The Man Behind The Dark Tower TV Series
Glen Mazzara, the man behind the canceled TV series wanted to do more than justice to King’s work. Here’s an excerpt from his recent interview with The King cast (a podcast). Mazzara was planning on adapting the book, ‘Wizard And Glass‘ which focuses on Roland’s youth.
Here’s what he has to say on what he was looking forward to the most while adapting for the screen:
“I was really looking forward to Blaine. I had ideas for that. I was really looking forward to Callahan. In fact, I was hoping to take Callahan’s backstory from the time that he leaves Salem’s Lot to the time that he ends up in Mid-World, I wanted to do that as its own mini-series. I didn’t think you could fit that into THE DARK TOWER proper, so I wanted to split that off. I had plans to hire the best joke writers in Hollywood to write when Roland and Susannah meet Dandelo. I really wanted that to laugh out loud funny. There were all these things that I was jonesing to do.”
Mazzara’s First Class Planning For The First Three Seasons
Mazzara also talked about his plans for the first few seasons.
“Season 1 ended with the death of Susan…In WIZARD AND GLASS very quickly you go from the death of Susan to the death of Gabrielle, [Roland’s] mother. I felt that I needed a season to give me real estate so that Gabrielle’s death didn’t step on Susan’s and that it felt like an escalation.” He also said that he was planning on exploring Gabrielle’s character more. Glen said that “she just doesn’t have as many pages attributed to her.” He also cast Elaine Cassidy in that role!
This is what Glen had to say about Season 2 & 3:
“So for season 2, the war with Farson was building. I was maybe going to use the shapeshifter story [from WIND THROUGH THE KEYHOLE] as part of season 2, and get to the death of Gabrielle and either the fall of Gilead there or the fall of Gilead would be the season three premiere. Very quickly, there would be the last stand at Jericho Hill and by episode 3.03 or 3.04 I was going to have Roland stumble out into the desert, follow him into the desert, and then I was going to do a time-lapse so that maybe you actually age Roland and switch actors. Then you have a new Roland reset the show at the top of season three, then go into THE GUNSLINGER and by the end of that season go into THE DRAWING OF THE THREE.”
This man wanted to do more than justice to King’s works. To our major disappointment, even the one Pilot episode that was filmed will never see ‘the light of the day’.

I am a passionate writer just trying to figure out life and myself. Writing has always been a way of expressing myself, hence most of my work is pretty raw and unprocessed. I try my best to be unapologetic about what I write. This internship in ByProduct Ventures has allowed me to push myself and see what all I am capable of. I have always pictured the future me as someone very creative and this opportunity takes me one step towards that. Apart from writing, I also love expressing myself by painting or drawing. All I want from life is to keep learning, falling and rising and to live every moment like it is my last! (aditigautam1705@gmail.com)
