Apple TV+ is bringing a new show for its audiences, titled The Essex Serpent. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Perry and written by Anna Symon and directed by Clio Barnard.
The Essex Serpent was greenlit by Apple in August 2020 and Keira Knightley was chosen to play the lead role of Cora alongside being the executive producer. However, she left the project in October 2020 because of family reasons and Claire Danes was signed to play Cora.

The Essex Serpent: Release Date and Plot
Even though the release date for the show has not been announced yet, we can expect it to release towards the end of 2022 or the first half of 2023.
Filming was planned to start in late November 2020 before Knightley left the show. Filming began in February 2021 in Essex locations like Alresford, Brightlingsea, North Fambridge and Maldon alongside London and Gordon Square in Bloomsbury. Filming for Season 1 ended on June 27, 2021.
The show is set in 1983 and follows Cora Seaborne, who is freed from an abusive marriage after her husband dies. She then shifts to the small Essex village of Aldwinter and becomes fascinated by a superstition that a creature called Essex Serpent has returned to the area.
Cora then explores the rumors of the creature, which is a type of dinosaur that survived extinction. She then clashes with the local vicar Will Ransome, who is determined to lay superstition to rest in his rural perish and deals with the scary rumors while they start to spread in the community.
The Essex Serpent: Cast and Trailer
The lead cast of The Essex Serpent includes familiar names like Claire Danes, Tom Hiddleston, Frank Dillane, Hayley Squires, Clemence Poesy, Jamael Westman, Dixie Egerickx and Michael Jibson.
Although a trailer for The Essex Serpent has not been released yet, we can expect it to release sometime in 2022. For now, check the filming video of the show below:
