The Flash Season 9: Release Date, Trailer and more!

Developed by, Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns, The Flash is an American superhero television drama series. It is based on the Barry Allen incarnation of DC Comics character the Flash, a costumed superhero crime-fighter with the power to move at superhuman speeds. It is a spin-off from Arrow, existing in the same fictional universe known as Arrowverse. Kreisberg and Berlanti also served as executive producers of the show along with David Nutter, Gabrielle Stanton, Sarah Schechter, Aaron Helbing and Todd Helbing.

The Flash premiered in North America on October 7, 2014, It has been well received by critics and audiences, and won the People’s Choice Award for “Favorite New TV Drama” in 2014. Followed by the series was renewed for an eighth season in February 2021 and premiered on November 16, 2021. In March 2022, the series was renewed for a ninth season.

The Flash Plot and Cast

Season 9 plot details are being kept under wraps for now, with Wallace revealing the reason John Diggle’s Green Lantern-style arc ended ahead of the next chapter. The short version? The Flash wasn’t renewed for Season 9 until after the final script was written, and they wanted to ensure the character got a proper sendoff. “We were thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, we have to do this because maybe no one will get a chance to!’” he told TVLine. “I talked to David myself, and told him, ‘I’d like to give this some closure,’ and he was all in favour of it. And when I told him what we had planned, he thought it sounded fantastic.”

Wallace further hinted that Diggle’s turning down his “cosmic” invitation “served a larger purpose” by further teasing a Blackest Night storyline from the comic books. As of now, he’s unsure if Season 9 will be The Flash’s last though, so the storyline still might not get there. “I’m a comic book nerd and I wanted to plant some Blackest Night seeds, and that Diggle moment helped me do that,” he shared. “But I don’t know if we’ll ever get to it.”

Fans are also predicting that the villainous Bloodwork, aka. Dr Ramsey Rosso — who last appeared during Season 6 — will return to wreak havoc in Season 9. DC’s Arrowverse-set comic book series Earth-Prime reportedly included Bloodwork escaping his imprisonment, with a promise that the story was “To be continued in Season 9 of The Flash.”

The CW is yet to announce which actors are returning, but we can expect Danielle Panabaker, Danielle Nicolet, Kayla Compton, and Brandon McKnight, among others.

The Flash Season 9 Release Date

The Flash Season 8 premiered on November 16, 2021 and it was renewed for a ninth season in March 2022. Reports say that filming is scheduled to begin in June 2022 and considering that, Season 9 should premiere by 2023.

The number of episodes for the new season is not confirmed since it has been different in the previous eight seasons. Further details related to Season 9 are expected to be revealed in the next few months.
