FRIENDS is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from September 22, 1994 to May 6, 2004. The show was created by David Crane and Martha Kauffman. Before the series got its name, it went through a lot of title changes. Kauffman and Crane initially started developing the show under the title ‘Insomnia Cafe’ and presented the idea to Bright. Then they made many title changes including ‘Six Of One’, ‘Friends Like Us’ and finally the show was named ‘Friends’!
What Is The Ritual The Cast Of Friends Performed?
The stellar cast of Friends includes Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, Courteney Cox as Monica Geller, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay, David Schwimmer as Ross Geller, Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing and Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani. According to David Arquette, the ex-husband of Courteney Cox, this stellar cast performs a ritual before filming each episode.
David Arquette revealed that he once filmed a behind the scenes video where he captured the cast performing the ritual! But he didn’t share the ritual video, to the disappointment of many fans. He stated that he had lost the video.
Arquette did not disclose the ritual but he said that the footage is with other cast members of Friends. So, there might be a slight possibility that we get to see the ritual footage during the reunion on HBO Max!
In a statement released by David Arquette, he stated that the ritual was very charming and sweet. He was also sure that the other cast members will release it soon. All we can do right now is wait for the reunion to see the footage.
When Is The Reunion Going To Take Place?
The cast of Friends were all supposed to reunite for an unscripted reunion which was said to air live on HBO Max. The reunion was originally supposed to launch on May 27 but due to the current global situation, the launch will be postponed. Bob Greenblatt, the chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment said that they are hoping to get back into production and finish the taping of the reunion by the end of summer. This reunion was supposed to be filmed on Stage24, the original Friends soundstage on the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank!
Awards Won By The Show!
Friends was nominated for 62 Primetime Emmy Awards. Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow were the only main cast members to win an Emmy while Courteney Cox was the only actor to not be nominated for one. The show won the Primetime Emmy Award For Outstanding Comedy Series in 2002. The series also has one Golden Globe award and 6 People’s Choice Awards in its name!
The Series Was Quite The Trendsetter!
Throughout the show, Aniston sported various trendy hairstyles and outfits as Rachel Green. Her hairstyle was named ‘The Rachel’ and people started copying it worldwide. Rachel Green’s outfits are ‘in trend’ even now!
Joey Tribbiani’s “How you doin?” is used as a pick-up line all over the world even today. The series also influenced the English language and it helped many non-English speaking students to learn the language. The Central Perk coffee house, the iconic setting of the series has been replicated in the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood. Many people propose marriage on the couch and others cry, remembering and replaying many scenes from the series. The orange couch and the coffee house has inspired people so much that there are many replicas of ‘Central Perk’ or ‘Friends Cafe'(as is known popularly) worldwide!
The basic concept behind the show is, “looking at the future as a question mark”. Many of us can completely relate to this concept. Don’t we all see the future as a huge giant cloud of uncertainties? Friends also portrays the idea of ‘friends are family’. One of the main reasons why this show is hugely loved by people is because of its relatability factor!
