We are now standing at such a point where we need strong journalists who are in search of the truth, no matter how bitter it is. Such that one would bring out a revolution and compel the citizens to question the authorities. After history witnessing several riots fueled up by women, the struggles still somewhere get subdued and suppressed, and lost among the pages. And the job of the journalists is to make people go back and visit the timeline, and realize why is it important to talk about our pasts. Such a motive was kept in the minds of the creators of the upcoming American biographical film, The Glorias, directed and produced by Julie Taymor, from a screenplay by Taymor and Sarah Ruhl. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2020. It is scheduled to be released on September 30, 2020, by Roadside Attractions and LD Entertainment, and Prine Video. The Glorias has till now received positive and favorable reviews, and the trailer has been much appreciated and well-received.
The official description of The Glorias on IMDb goes like this, “The story of feminist icon Gloria Steinem’s itinerant childhood’s influence on her life as a writer, activist, and organizer for women’s rights worldwide.” Gloria Steinem holds a special place in the history of feminism, journalism, and socio-political activism. She has also been nationally recognized as a leader and a spokeswoman for the American feminist movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Her writings have especially impacted generations. According to the official Sundance website, we will witness a non-traditional biopic, “against the backdrop of a lonely bus on an open highway, five Glorias trace Steinem’s influential journey to prominence—from her time in India as a young woman to the founding of Ms. magazine in New York to her role in the rise of the women’s rights movement in the 1960s and beyond.” The Glorias is anticipated to leave a mark behind in the year of revolutions and people questioning the individuals in power.
