Developed by David Shore, The Good Doctor is an American medical drama television series. It is based on the 2013 South Korean series of the same name. The executive producers of the show are David Shore, Seth Gordon, Daniel Dae Kim, Erin Gunn, David Kim, Sebastian Lee, Mike Listo, Thomas L. Moran, Freddie Highmore, David Hoselton, and Liz Friedman, and Peter Blake.

The series debuted on September 25, 2017. The Good Doctor has received generally mixed reviews from critics, In May 2021, the series was renewed for a fifth season which premiered on September 27, 2021. In March 2022, the series was renewed for a sixth season which is set to premiere soon.

In a post-Season 5 finale interview with TVLine, showrunner David Shore spoke about what fans can expect in Season 6, saying that the immediate focus of the initial episodes will be on the aftermath of Dr. Audrey Lim getting stabbed twice by Owen. Shore also confirmed that Dr. Lim is not going to die from the attack, but is not going to recover easily either.

As he put it: “We don’t do anything that’s not meaningful. As writers, we want to make sure that each story is significant. That’s not saying that we’re going to lose her. We love her. But there are challenges up ahead.” He also added that giving Dr. Lim a physical challenge to overcome was an interesting way to explore the character, given the strength of character she has displayed in the face of other challenges throughout “The Good Doctor.”

Many members of the main cast of “The Good Doctor” are expected to return for Season 6. This includes Freddie Highmore as the show’s main character, Dr. Shaun Murphy, as well as Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park, and Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo.

Following the nail-biting Season 5 finale, it was unclear if Christina Chang, who plays Dr. Audrey Lim, and Fiona Gubelmann, who plays Dr. Morgan Reznick, would return for Season 6.

The Good Doctor Season 6 Release Date

In mid-June, ABC revealed, that “The Good Doctor” will make its Season 6 premiere at 10 p.m. ET on Monday, October 3. The release date also follows closely to previous season’s premiere windows, all of which occurred in late September.

The network had previously announced that the sixth season would have 22 episodes, a marked difference from previous seasons, which have typically had either 18 or 20 episodes. The sixth season will also see the show pass the 100-episode milestone.
