Created by Robert King, Michelle King, and Phil Alden Robinson—is a spin-off and sequel to The Good Wife, “The Good Fight” is an American legal television series that follows Christine Baranski as Diane Lockhart, as she loses her employment after an enormous financial scam destroys the reputation of her goddaughter Maia (Rose Leslie) and Diane’s savings, leading them to join Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo) at one of Chicago’s preeminent law firms, the first season of which premiered on February 19, 2017.

Starring Baranski, Leslie, Jumbo, Erica Tazel, Sarah Steele, Justin Bartha, Delroy Lindo, Nyambi Nyambi, Michael Boatman, and Audra McDonald, and features Paul Guilfoyle and Bernadette Peters in recurring roles.

The latest season of this series premiered on Thursday, June 24, 2021, on Paramount+.

In the fifth season, Diane (Christine Baranski) is forced to question whether it’s appropriate for her to help run an African American law firm with Liz (Audra McDonald) when the firm loses two top lawyers. Meanwhile, Marissa (Sarah Steele) and the firm become entangled with Hal Wackner (Mandy Patinkin), a regular Chicagoan who decides to open his own courtroom in the back of a copy shop.

As the actress rightly points out (via Variety), it’s going to be impossible to ignore this moment of history in a show like hers.

“I think the value of our show is it’s a thinking person’s show, and it pulls you back and makes you say, ‘Wow, these are characters that are living through what we are living through’. God knows they couldn’t write about this, because it’s only just surfaced in the last four or five weeks with a vengeance – although we began reading about it in December and January. But it will be very interesting next season, if we have a next season.

“It’s going to be very hard to ignore this, and it’s going to be really interesting to see how writers and moviemakers and artists address this period of time in the way we address 9/11. It’s going to cut through a hole in our consciousness: Our lives will be before and after.”
