Hulu has been gifting us with great shows this year and making our lives less miserable. Whether its a movie or a web series, you name the genre, and you get it. And on top of that, the shows are even renewed after heavy demands from the viewers, and the TRP had continuously been high. Just like that, Hulu also gifted us with The Great, an American comedy-drama series, which was released on May 15, 2020, with ten episodes and even ordered a second season last month. The story travels through the 18th century Russia; an anti-historical comic ride follows the rise of Catherine the Nothing to Catherine the Great (you can already contemplate the mood of the show with the title of the character itself).
The official description of The Great goes like this, “It is a satirical, comedic drama about the rise of Catherine the Great from outsider to the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia’s history. A fictionalized, fun, and anachronistic story of an idealistic, romantic young girl who arrives in Russia for an arranged marriage to the mercurial Emperor Peter. Hoping for love and sunshine, she finds a dangerous, depraved, backward world instead of that she resolves to change. All she has to do is kill her husband, beat the church, baffle the military, and get the court onside. A very modern story about the past which encompasses the many roles she played over her lifetime as a lover, teacher, ruler, friend, and fighter.” Good news for the fans, The Great had also been nominated for 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards and 2020 TCA Awards.
The second season is anticipated to have the same number of episodes as the primary. Although, there hasn’t been any official announcement of the release date of the second season, and it even might get delayed due to the pandemic. The Great stars Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Fox, Sacha Dhawan, Charity Wakefield, Gwilym Lee, Adam Godley, Douglas Hodge, Belinda Bromilow, Richard Pyros, Bayo Gbadamosi and Sebastian de Souza.
