Earlier this year, Amasia Entertainment won the rights to “The Green Hornet” – the classic pulp crime-fighting hero following a highly competitive bid. Later, Universal Pictures and Amasia Entertainment on Thursday announced a partnership to develop an action-packed movie “The Green Hornet And Kato”. The movie is based on one of the most underrated masked heroes of all time. Unlike, mainstream superhero and sidekick saga, There is no Green Hornet without Kato. The title suggests that both the characters will be equally monetised upon. This union is eyeing to make this adaptation a global franchise.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Michael, Bradley, and the entire Amasia team to launch an exciting new cinematic world for Britt Reid, Kato, and the Black Beauty, and we can’t wait to share it with global audiences soon, Peter Cramer, president of Universal Pictures, Michael Helfant and Bradley Gallo will be producing the project for Amasia.
Michael Helfant said “Our goal is to make a film that existing fans will love, and new fans will love to discover”, noting that the studio was behind the serials made in the 1940s.
History of The Green Hornet
The Green Hornet dates back to the 1930s when it was first aired as a serialized radio drama. The Green Hornet is a masked, crime-fighter, a hero who works for the betterment of society speeding around town in their futuristic car known as the Black Beauty. This crime-fighter debuted on serialized radio dramas back in 1936. Later, the televised series of “The Green Hornet” was created by “Batman” producer Willian Dozier which starred Van Williams as the Green Hornet and Bruce Lee as Kato but couldn’t do more than a season.
More recently, a movie of the action-comedy genre came to the bigger screen starring Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet and Jay Chou as Kato but proved to be a big financial disappointment.
