Based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is an American dystopian television series. The series was created by Bruce Miller and first premiered on April 26, 2017 with first three episodes, the subsequent seven episodes were released every Wednesday.

The second season of the series premiered on April 25, 2018 and run for two more seasons until 2021. Ahead of the fourth season premiere, the series was renewed for a fifth season.

The Handmaid’s Tale Plot and Cast

We can be sure to expect a lot of drama considering the way The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 ended. Speaking about the fifth season, Miller told a news outlet:

“I have to say I would have had very different ideas before the pandemic. I mean, we talked about it, and Lizzie and I have talked about it, and the writing staff and I have talked about it extensively about where we’re going precisely, but I do feel like, after this year, it’s a good time to reassess.”

He continued,

“So I know where I am in the story, and I do feel like we’re kind of reaching kind of a pivot point, but whether that’s the end or not, I don’t know. It just feels like it’s a good time to reassess what you were thinking, just because the story world has opened up because the real world has changed so much.”

The new season will feature Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne alongside Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia, Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford, O. T. Fagbenle as Luke Bankole, and Samira Wiley as Moira Strand.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Release Date

The series will return with two new episodes on September 14, 2022 on Hulu, followed by the rest of the episodes every Wednesday. Further details are expected to be revealed soon.

The series was renewed for a fifth season back on December 10, 2020. At the time, Moss was joined by several of her Handmaid’s Tale cast members to announce that Season 4 filming had resumed and Season 5 was on the way.
