The claustrophobia of isolation — be it in space or in a remote location here on earth. It brings thrillers that take place in those locations their own brand of tension. The people who are being killed or are going slowly insane have nowhere else to go. So it’s just a matter of time. That is the idea behind The Head, which is a murder mystery thriller that takes place on a remote Antarctic research station. Read more about The Head new season!

What is The Head about?

We pan over a mountain to see research station Polaris VI. It’s April 29th, the last day of sunlight for six months. The station does research on how to stop climate change, led by the “genius” of head scientist Arthur Wilde.

On the first night of isolation, the station’s winter doctor, Maggie Mitchell sees an injured seal suffering on the surface. Wilde comes out and sees her looking, reminding her that part of the station’s mission is to not disturb the wildlife.

Despite being advised that investigators will be there in 48 hours to start looking into things, he goes into the infirmary and questions the delirious and traumatized Maggie himself. She tells the story of the night she and two other rookies completed the 300, going from a sauna to outside the station in their skivvies.
