The High Note: When is the Dakota Johnson movie releasing?

The High Note is an upcoming romantic comedy-drama starring Fifty Shades Trilogy fame Dakota Johnson. The film is written by Flora Greeson and Nisha Ganatra (Late Night, Black Monday) was the director-in-charge. Produced by Working Title Films, Focus Features is its official distributor. Initially titled as ‘Covers’, the film was retitled ‘The High Note’ in February 2020.

Besides Dakota Johnson as Maggie Sherwood, the film co-stars Tracee Ellis Ross as Grace Davis, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as David Cliff, Zoë Chao as Katie, Ice Cube as Jack Robertson, Deniz Akdeniz as Spencer and Diplo as himself.

Plot

Set amidst the glitz of the glamorous music industry in Los Angeles, Maggie (Johnson) is the personal assistant of superstar singer Grace Davies. Maggie is always overworked and Grace’s talent and ego both are at great heights. While Maggie still aspires to become a music producer, Grace’s producer Robertson (Ice Cube) offers her a life-changing offer. Maggie and Grace subsequently cook up a plan which will change their careers forever.

In an interview with the Parade, Trace Ellis Ross, who previously starred in the TV show Black-ish, threw some more light on the bond between Maggie and Grace,” I’m mindful to not let it be that Maggie saves Grace. I don’t really think that’s what the story is about. I think it’s two women that are on paths that are moving side by side. As a result, their paths intersect, which I think is so much of what happens in life in a real way, as opposed to Maggie is the instrument by which Grace discovers this part of herself. That kind of discount the journey to a certain extent.” She added,” They are on paths to be the versions of themselves that they authentically want to be, and they support each other. I identified with this idea that we often get trapped in being who people want us to be instead of who we are.”

Release Date

The High Note was set to release on May 8 in the US. But with the pandemic crisis at the front, a new release date has not been announced by the filmmakers.
