Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson are undoubtedly two of the funniest celebrities in Hollywood. Put them together in a film, and you get a laughter riot. That is exactly what happened in The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Even though the critics didn’t like the plot of the film that much, the comedic timing and chemistry between the two actors was loved by everyone. The action-comedy went on to gross $180 million on the worldwide box office. A sequel to the film was announced in May 2018. In November 2018, Lionsgate acquired the rights to distribute the film in the United States.

Patrick Hughes will be returning to direct the sequel. Matt O’Toole and Les Weldon also return as producers for the second film. Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson will be returning to their respective roles of Michael Bryce and Darius Kincaid. Salma Hayek will also be returning to her role as Darius’s wife, Sonia Kincaid. The sequel will revolve around her, as Michael and Darius unite again to save her from new threats. Élodie Yung will not be reprising her role of Interpol agent and Michael’s ex-girlfriend, Amelia Roussel. Richard E. Grant will also reprise his role from the first film as Mr. Seifert, a client of Michael.
Among the new cast members, we have Frank Grillo, Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas. The roles that these actors have been cast in are not disclosed yet. Tom Hopper also joins the cast of Hitman’s Bodyguard 2 as Magnusson. Other new cast members include Kristofer Kamiyasu, playing the role of Zento. Gabriella Wright has been cast as Veronica.
Release Date of Hitman’s Bodyguard 2
The filming of the sequel began in March 2019 in Europe. Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and United Kingdom were some of the locations where filming took place. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard (or simply, Hitman’s Bodyguard 2) was earlier scheduled to release on August 28, 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release of the film was delayed by a year. The film is now scheduled to release on August 20, 2021.
