The Last of Us 2 – Release Date and Gameplay

The Last of Us 2 is a thrilling game designed by Naughty Dog and launched by Sony Computer Entertainment. The role of 19-year-old Ellie falls into conflict with a mystical Christian group in the post-Apocalyptic United States. The game involves survival horror elements and is played from a third-party viewpoint.

Players use guns and deadly weapons and can use stealth to protect themselves from hostile humans and cannibalistic animals poisoned with the mutant form of Cordyceps fungus. Up to eight players participate in cooperative and competitive games in online multiplayer mode.

Release Date

The Last of Us 2 was revealed at the PlayStation Experience function in December 2016. The first trailer announced the return of Ellie and Joel, whose plot takes place five years after the first play.

The second trailer was revealed as part of the Paris Games Week in October 2017. It announced four new characters: Yara (Victoria Grace), Lev ( Ian Alexander), Emily (Emily Swallow), and an unknown character played by Laura Bailey.

Druckmann claimed that the characters “are an important part of [Ellie and Joel’s] next adventure.” The title was presented at the 2018 edition at Sony’s E3. The State of Play, a showcase on future PlayStation titles, released another trailer in September 2019.

The Last of Us 2 was initially scheduled for release on February 21, 2020, but was postponed until May 29, 2020, in October 2019. On April 2, 2020, Naughty Dog revealed that The Last of Us Part II was almost complete. But was indefinitely postponed owing to issues caused by the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic.

Eventually, Sony revealed that Part II would be released on 19 June 2020.

Gameplay

The gameplay elements of Part II have extended to include its sequel, The Last of Us. In Part II, the player character can navigate the landscape by being able to achieve higher vantage points by leaping and climbing. Players can also crawl in a prone position to avoid enemies.

Part II also sees the introduction of “Listen Mode” allowing players to detect opponents with a heightened sense of hearing and spatial perception, shown as visible outlines across walls and objects. Also, players can gain additional abilities upgrades in an ability tree. The tree’s three main components are Defense, Crafting, and Stealth. Part II also includes guard dogs that can detect the scent of the player.
