The Last Witch Hunter 2: Cast, Trailer and more interesting updates!

Given the poor box-office performance of The Last Witch Hunter, it was unlikely that there would be a sequel to the film. The film got mostly negative reviews from critics and grossed out at a mere $147 million, against a production budget of around $90 million. However, the protagonist of the film, Vin Diesel, has a knack of reviving seemingly dead franchises; something that he has done splendidly with xXx and Riddick. And rightly so, he might be doing the same for a third time; this time with his 2015 film The Last Witch Hunter.

The film revolves around an immortal hunter who hunts witches in modern day New York. The Last Witch Hunter was directed by Breck Eisner and distributed by Summit Entertainment. A sequel has reportedly been in the works since 2015.

The Last Witch Hunter 2- What we know so far

On June 17, 2015, Vin Diesel announced on his Facebook page that an untitled sequel to The Last Witch Hunter was being planned. However, the poor box-office numbers of the first film cast doubts over the sequel being made. Add to that Vin Diesel’s busy schedule, a sequel being made was certainly a very bleak possibility.

In March 2020, surprisingly, Vin Diesel announced that The Last Witch Hunter 2 is in the works at Lionsgate. In an interview, he was reported saying this about the sequel:

“Lionsgate is coming and saying, ‘We’re putting a writer on for the next one.’ That’s kinda cool! And this is just recent, by the way. But it’s funny that you mentioned Last Witch Hunter because I’m in a meeting with Lionsgate and they’re actively creating the sequel to The Last Witch Hunter.”

So we can expect to see Vin Diesel back as the immortal witch hunter Kaulder. On other cast members reprising their roles from the first film, Diesel himself stated that he would like to work with Michael Caine again in The Last Witch Hunter 2. So we can maybe expect him as well to be back in his role as the 36th Dolan.
