Developed by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is an upcoming American fantasy television series. The series is based on the novel The Lord of the Rings and its appendices by J. R. R. Tolkien.
Amazon then announced in August 2021 that filming of the upcoming seasons will take place in the United Kingdom. The first season will consist of eight episodes and a second season was formally ordered in November 2019.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Plot and Cast
The show will be set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It starts during a time of relative peace and covers the main events from the Second Age of Middle-earth – including the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the story of the island kingdom of Numenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men. These events take place over thousands of years in Tolkien’s original stories but are condensed for the series.
Amazon Studios announced the cast members of the show in July 2021. The list includes names like Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, and Dylan Smith, Daniel Weyman, Maxim Baldry, and others.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Release Date
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power release date has been confirmed by Amazon. The new series will launch on September 2, 2022, on Amazon Prime.
Amazon purchased the television rights to The Lord of the Rings in November 2017 for $250 million. This means a five-season production commitment worth $1 billion which makes it the most expensive television series ever made.
