Eve Hewson, Himesh Patel, Klondike, Marton Csokas, Ewen Leslie form the amazing cast of the show. However, all our eyes would automatically go to Eva Greens, the star of the series. All these members strive to find a fortune in New Zealand’s gold rush. They also get separated, then reunite, then find fortunes, then miss them, they worry, they are greedy, and whatnot. Don’t worry, you will witness a great adventurous astrological ride in this series.

The Plot of The Luminaries

While The Luminaries indicate the sun and the moon, the plot goes beyond the celestial objects. BBC One’s Official synopsis reads: “The Luminaries tells an epic story of love, murder, and revenge, as men and women traveled across the world to make their fortunes. It is a 19th-century tale of adventure and mystery, set on the Wild West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island in the boom years of the 1860s gold rush.”

“The story follows defiant young adventurer Anna Wetherell, who has sailed from Britain to New Zealand to begin a new life. There she meets the radiant Emery Staines, an encounter that triggers a strange kind of magic that neither can explain. As they fall in love, driven together and apart by fateful coincidence, these star-crossed lovers begin to wonder: do we make our fortunes, or do our fortunes make us?”

What can we expect from The Luminaries?

Eleanor Catton’s novel of the same name is the base for the upcoming series. This 6 part adventure romance is an amazing treat to watch. The novel won the Booker Prize. The book runs to 900+ pages. The show aired already in New Zealand during May, this year. There are quite a few changes in the plot of the show done by Eleanor herself. The book consists of 12 sections. Interestingly, each section is half the length of the previous one. This symbolically represents the waning phases of the moon. Astrology and Divination will take the center stage.

Release Date of The Luminaries

On Friday, 21st of June, 2020, you will get a glimpse of the first episode. Then all the episodes reach BBC iplayer. You can binge-watch the series too. Then subsequent episodes will be released weekly on the Sunday slot. On 19th the team is giving an interview to the Radio Times Facebook page.
