The New Mutants: Release Date, Cast and more updates!

The New Mutants will be the last film in the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film series. The film revolves around a story of five mutant kids who are held captive in a secret facility and try to escape from there. The film was earlier planned to be a trilogy. However, after Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the trilogy plan was dropped in order to accomodate the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 

Cast of The New Mutants

Josh Boone is the director of The New Mutants. He has written the screenplay of the film along with Knate Lee. Boone had had the idea of the film since 2014, and the film was officially greenlit by Fox in May, 2015. The film stars Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane. She plays the role of a Scottish mutant with the ability to turn into a wolf. Anya Taylor-Joy plays the role of Ilyana Rasputin/Magik, a Russian mutant with powers of sorcery. She also has a purple dragon companion in the film, called Lockheed. 

Charlie Heaton is playing the role of an American mutant called Sam Guthrie/Cannonball. He has the ability to propel himself into the air, and becomes invulnerable while doing so. Blu Hunt plays the role of a Native American mutant, Danielle Moonstar/Mirage. She has the ability to create illusions based on the fears of other people. The fifth and final mutant is played by Henry Zaga. He plays the role of Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, a Brazilian mutant who has the ability to manipulate solar energy. Alice Braga also stars in the film. She plays the role of Cecelia Reyes, a medical doctor and a mentor to the five mutants. She also has the ability to protective fields around herself.

Release Date of The New Mutants

20th Century Studios had released the teaser trailer of the film three years ago, in October 2017. The film has had several delays in its release date, in order to accomodate other films such as Deadpool 2 and Dark Phoenix. After the acquisition of Fox by Disney, the latter scheduled the release of The New Mutants on April 3, 2020. The official trailer was also released in January, 2020.

However, the release was further delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The New Mutants is now slated for a theatrical release in the United States on August 28, 2020.
