The Passion of the Christ: The Resurrection – Cast, Plot and more Details!

Published

on

The Passion of the Christ is arguably the biggest religious film to come out of Hollywood. Made on a budget of $30 million, it grossed over $620 million at the global box office. The film was a massive hit among regular church-goers. It wasn’t expected for a film based on religious scriptures, let alone a film that was R-rated, to perform this well at the theatres. The film focuses on the last twelve hours before Jesus’s death, and also gives a glimpse of his resurrection. The film was also nominated for Best Makeup, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score at the 77th Academy Awards in 2005.

The Passion of the Christ 2- Plot details

Mel Gibson, the director of The Passion of the Christ, announced in 2016 that the sequel will be titled The Resurrection of the Christ. The screenplay will be written by Mel Gibson and Randall Wallace. They both have previously worked together on the films Braveheart and We Were Soldiers. Mel Gibson had also hinted that part of the film will be taking place in Hell, and that the film will also depict the Fall of the Angels. The film will be exploring the three day period starting from the day of Jesus’s death, the Good Friday.

The sequel might face some trouble because of controversies surrounding its director, Mel Gibson. He has been accused of making homophobic, racist, and antisemitic remarks in the past. That might not bode well with the audiences and studios alike. However, in May 2020, Randall Wallace gave a statement saying that the movie might begin filming soon.

Cast of The Resurrection of the Christ

In January 2018, Jim Caviezel was in talks with Mel Gibson to reprise his role as Jesus Christ in The Resurrection of the Christ. Maia Morgenstern will also reprise her role as Mary. Christo Jivkov and Francesco DeVito also return to their respective roles as John and Peter. Other cast details are still under wraps.

According to the official IMDb page of the film, The Resurrection of the Christ is slated to release on April 7, 2022 in the United States.
