Plot details and Cast of the movie
The Rental is about two couples and their celebratory weekend at an AirBnB gone wrong. The movie stars Alison Brie as Michelle and Dan Stevens as Charlie, Michelle’s husband, in lead roles. Jeremy Allen White plays the role of Charlie’s brother, Josh and Sheila Vand plays the role of Mina, Josh’s girlfriend. The four of them plan to get together and spend the weekend in an expensive AirBnB by the coast. There is an air of uncomfortability between the two couples, because of the closeness between Charlie and Mina, and when Michelle finds out that Charlie cheated on her last two ex-girlfriends, the situation becomes more awkward.
However, the relationship dramas of the two couples is not the main attraction of the movie. Mina becomes wary of the AirBnB’s host when he refuses to rent the place to her but easily does so, without any hesitation, to Charlie. Things further take a turn for the worse when Mina discovers two hidden cameras in the shower. This makes the group suspicious that the owner of the rental might be spying on them, and things only escalate from there on till the end of the movie, with some pretty R rated violence towards the ending.
The Rental received an aggregate score of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, and a 6.1 rating on IMDb, after its theatrical release in select drive-in theatres in the USA. It will also be available online, to rent, from July 24 onwards.
