Created by Tony Schumacher, The Responder is a British police procedural series set in Liverpool. The show is produced for BBC One and it premiered on 24 January 2022.
The show is directed by Tim Mielants, Philip Barantini and Fien Troch, and produced by Rebecca Ferguson. In late March 2022, the series was officially renewed for a second season.
So when is the second season releasing? What is the plot? Who is playing the lead roles? Continue reading to know further details.
The Responder Plot and Cast
At the moment, it’s pure speculation what a new batch of episodes will even look like. But in the season-one finale, there were certainly several story threads left to pull on. Certainly, things could go wrong for Jodie Sweeney, who has taken in a massive bag of coke to sell following the death of her husband Carl.
Ray knows he’s onto something about Chris being a bent copper and has a vendetta against him after blaming him for losing his job as a “proper” force member. As such, he’s developed an obsession with bringing Chris down.
DI Deb Barnes became aware of her former co-worker’s investigation, and while she initially brushed it off, Chris’s odd behaviour has her thinking as well. While he might have been able to fix his problems at the end of the finale, seemingly returning to a normal life, it seems the criminal underworld may not be completely done with him yet.
On top of that, Rachel’s abusive fireman boyfriend may have some retaliation in mind after he was out in front of his co-workers for mistreating her, and he may have lost his job as a result.
Tony Schumacher is giving nothing away on Twitter at the moment, tweeting along with jokes that have Chris compared to Batman, giving him a Liverpool twist by dubbing him “Ballad” with his arch-nemesis being “Yer Jokin'”.
The show’s creators and the original channel are yet to communicate who will be back for the second season. We, however, expect actors to be back depending on how the season one plot develops. Without a doubt, we hope to see Martin Freeman back as the series protagonist. Mike will be back as Rachel, Martins’s partner. We also expect Ian Hurt, MyAnna Buring, David Bradley, Warren Brown, and Rita Tushingham.
The Responder Season 2 Release Date
Filming is yet to commence on the second series, but it will be returning to Liverpool. Taking into account how long a show takes to edit and film, we would hasten a guess that the show will be back, at the earliest, in early 2023.
The upcoming season is expected to have five episodes like Season 1, although it is yet to be confirmed. Apart from this, the makers are yet to make other official announcements related to the show.
