The Rumored “Game of Thrones” Prequel: Everything you should know

The prequel of Game of Thrones is not happening. But something else is.

If you live in this world, you must know “Game of Thrones”. Yes, it’s that of a popular series. It gave faces and recognition to the actors in it. The series first premiered on 17th April 2011. And wrapped it up on 19th May 2019. It was a total number of 73 episodes that aired in the span of 8 seasons.

David Benioff and D.D. Weiss created the American fantasy television drama series for HBO. At present, it is available on Disney+Hotstar. Also, it was based on the novel series by George R.R. Martin named, ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’.

Unaired “Game of Thrones” Prequel – Details

The show continued for 8 years bringing back one after one season for the fans. However, it ended last year and since then fans need more of it. And so, it was said that the makers and creators (of HBO) will be back with another series. It will be a spinoff.

Five scripts were ready to be picked. Between those HBO decided to go with the “White Walkers” one. HBO approved the process and everything was set. It also made their star cast ready. Stars like Naomi Watts, Miranda Richardson, and Josh Whitehouse, were going to be in there.

The story was set thousands of years ago, before the incidents of Game of Thrones. It was inferred to explore the origin story of White Walkers. Jane Goldman and George R. R. Martin were going to create the series.

However, when everything was done, unfortunately, HBO dismantled the project.

HBO’s Statement on the Cancellation

After the cancellation of the project, HBO officially made an announcement on the dismantled spinoff.

“After thoughtful consideration, we have chosen not to move forward to series with the Untitled Game of Thrones prequel.” – The Network made an official statement here to not to go with the series.

They Continued – “We appreciate (showrunner and screenwriter) Jane Goldman, (director) S.J. Clarkson, and the talented cast and crew for their hard work and commitment.”

Another Spin-off is happening!

After once the network announced the cancellation of the unnamed series, they immediately announced another spin-off. HBO announced another spin-off, also ordered ten episodes of it. It is named as the ‘House of the Dragon’.

It will be the adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s occident novel “Fire & Blood”. Martin and Ryan Condal is said to be the producers of the spinoff.

The spinoff will take you 300 years back before the events of Game of Thrones. It will be centered on the origin of the House Targaryen. It will release on HBO around the year 2022. However, no cast has bee announced yet.
