The Serpent Queen: Release Date, Plot, Cast and more!

The Serpent Queen is a period drama based on Leonie Frieda’s non-fiction work, titled Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France (2004). The series highlights the life of one of the most influential women of all time and that of the most powerful rulers in France’s history. Justin Haythe, apart from being the creator of the show, is also the executive producer of it alongside Francis Lawrence and Erwin Stoff. Keep reading to know more.

The Serpent Queen: Plot and Cast

The plot of Serpent Queen focuses on Catherine de Medici and her rise to the throne. Catherine’s story unveils itself following flashbacks as she enlightens Rahima, her new servant, with her learned lessons while defending her actions. The young and orphaned Catherine gets married into the 16th-century French court at the age of 14. On the night of her wedding, she comes to know of Diana de Poitiers, a lady-in-waiting, the love of Catherine’s new husband. She is a beautiful woman aged twice as the newlywed groom. Awaiting a future with a sudden uncertainty and diminished hope of conceiving, Catherine must find out whom she can lay her trust in, both within her inner and outer circle while rising above all those who underrate her survival skills.

The cast also includes Charles Dance as Pope Clement VII, Ludivine Sagnier as Diane de Poitiers, Liv Hill as Young Catherine, Alex Heath as Young Henri, Kiruna Stamell as Mathilde, Colm Meaney as King Francis, Rebecca Gethings as Queen Eleanor, Ray Panthaki as Charles Guise, Raza Jaffrey as François Guise Guillemette, Buffet as Madeleine de la Tour, Louis Landau as Dauphin Francis, and Memet Ali Alabora as Sultan Suleiman.
