The Sinner is a crime thriller mystery show that is based on Petra Hammesfahr’s 1999 novel of the same name. The first season of the show received rave reviews and exceptional ratings, while also receiving two nominations at the 75th Golden Globe Awards. The show was originally intended to be a mini-series, but after the success of the first season, USA Network turned it into an anthology series. The first season aired in 2017, the second in 2018 and the third in 2020. The Sinner is also available to stream on Netflix. It was renewed for a fourth season in June, 2020.
Cast of The Sinner Season 4
The show follows an anthological format, which means every season has a different story with a different cast. The only cast member who has appeared in all three seasons is Bill Pullman, playing the role of Detective Harry Ambrose. The first season of the show had Jessica Biel cast opposite Pullman. She also serves as an executive producer on the show. The second season saw Carrie Coon replace Biel, and the third season saw Matt Bomer as Jamie Burns, in the role opposite to Pullman’s.
Bill Pullman has been confirmed to reprise his role in the fourth season as well. However, none of the cast from season three will be returning, as season four will see the detective unsolve a new crime mystery. In the final episode of season three, Detective Harry Ambrose (Pullman) kills Jamie Burns (Bomer), and as the episode ends, we see the detective sobbing, while talking to Sonya Barzel (Jessica Hecht) on the phone. The confrontation with Burns has taken a psychological toll on Ambrose, which we might get to see in season four. The fourth season will see an all-new cast, which has not been announced yet.
Release date of The Sinner Season 4
The Sinner was renewed for a fourth season in June 2020. The show is expected to air on USA Network sometime around fall 2021, but it might get delayed due to the delays in production because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As of right now, no official release date has been announced by the USA for season four of The Sinner.
