Have you ever wondered what if your favorite childhood cartoon series is back again in your life, just to make it colorful once again? Yes, you heard it right. We all grew up watching the yellow underwater sponge, with his quirky shenanigans and deep logical and relatable dialogues and monologues. Even though he and his pal gang has made us laugh with their silly adventures, but now it seems like he was genuinely adulting, trying to teach and give us the subtle hints of reality, very careful not to burst our fantasy bubbles. Again, the yellow sponge is back with yet another fun venture in the form of a movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. It is going to be the upcoming American animated comedy film, directed by the series developer and former writer Tim Hill, and tagged along with Michael Kvamme for the screenplay. The story is written by Aaron Springer, Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, and it will be the first SpongeBob SquarePants film in the franchise to be fully animated in stylized CGI rather than the regular traditional 2D animation. The SpongeBob movie is also produced by Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Movies, and United Plankton Pictures with animation provided by Mikros Image.
If you are wondering about the release date, then that would be a long one. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Runwas initially planned to hit the theatres last year on February 9, 2019, by Paramount Pictures but was pushed to August 2, 2019. But once again, it was thrown to the court of 2020, with the official release date of July 31, 2020. But guess what? With the sheer bad luck that 2020 has gifted us, due to the pandemic, the release has been canceled. It would instead be released through video on demand and CBS All Access in early 2021. But thankfully, in July 2020, Netflix acquired international distribution rights to the film, excluding the United States, Canada, and China.
This time, SpongeBob and his friend Patrick will embark on a journey to rescue Gary who had been sailed to Poseidon, traveling to the Lost City of Atlantic City, and will also uncover their childhood histories. We have a very interesting list of voice-over artists this time, they might do double voice-overs for different characters. Tom Kenny would be voicing SpongeBob SquarePants and Gary the Snail, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Clancy Brown as Eugene, Mary Jo Catlett as Mrs. Puff and many more. By the way, don’t forget to spot out Keanu Reeves as the sage out of nowhere.
