The Umbrella Academy is an American superhero streaming television series which is based on the comic book series of the same name. Gerard Way, a former member of My Chemical Romance, wrote the comic book series. Steve Blackman created this show and Jeremy Slater developed it, all for Netflix. This show follows around a dysfunctional family of adopted sibling superheroes. They are who reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and the threat of an impending apocalypse. Borderline Entertainment, Dark Horse Entertainment, and Universal Cable Productions produce this show.
Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda and Emmy Raver-Lampman are some of the members of the cast. Other members include Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, Mary J. Blige and John Magaro. The adaptation for this show began development as a film optioned by Universal Pictures in 2011. However, it was eventually shelved in favour of a television series in 2015, before being officially getting a greenlight from Netflix in July 2017.
WHAT IS THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY ABOUT?
According to Wikipedia, “The Umbrella Academy is set in a universe where 43 women around the world give birth simultaneously on October 1, 1989, despite none of them showing any sign of pregnancy until labour began. Seven of the children are adopted by eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves and turned into a superhero team that he calls “The Umbrella Academy.” Hargreeves gives the children numbers rather than names, but they eventually are named by their robot-mother, Grace, as Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Five, Ben, and Vanya. While putting six of his children to work fighting crime, Reginald keeps Vanya apart from her siblings’ activities, as she supposedly demonstrates no powers of her own.”
WHAT IS THE CAST FOR THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY?
Ellen Page is Vanya Hargreeves / The White Violin / Number Seven who is a meek violinist who is somewhat alienated from her siblings because she has no apparent supernatural abilities. Another member of the cast is Tom Hopper who plays Luther Hargreeves / Spaceboy / Number One, an astronaut with super strength. David Castañeda plays Diego Hargreeves / The Kraken / Number Two who is a rebellious troublemaker with the mild telekinetic ability to curve the trajectory of anything he throws, usually knives. Emmy Raver-Lampman plays the role of Allison Hargreeves / The Rumor / Number Three, a celebrity with the ability to control minds and bend reality
WHEN IS SEASON 3 OF THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY RELEASING?
The Umbrella Academy was renewed for a third season. The production for the same came to a halt with the whole pandemic but now it is up and running. If everything goes according to plan we can see this season on Netflix by late 2021.
