Created by Regina Y. Hicks and Wanda Sykes, The Upshaws is an American sitcom. Hicks and Sykes are also the executive producers of the show alongside Mike Epps, Niles Kirchner and Page Hurwitz.

The series was released on May 12, 2021. On June 24, 2021, Netflix renewed the series for a 16-episode second season which is expected to be split into two parts. The show has received generally positive reviews from critics and it currently holds an approval rating of 63% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Upshaws Plot and Cast

The series revolves around the lives of the Upshaw family, a black family trying to make it in the community. Their humble way of living is what makes them relatable to the audience. Bennie, the husband, is a mechanic, while Regina is a nurse. Jr is their firstborn, followed by Aliah and Maya. Kevin is Bennie’s son, whom he fathered with his ex-girlfriend.

The other family member is Lucretia, who is not Bennie’s favourite but he tolerates her because the children love her, which she reciprocates. Bennie steals Regina’s money, which makes her doubt if he ever cared. When a little girl finally comes out to claim Bennie is the father, things take an exciting turn.

The expected casts include Kim Fields as Regina Upshaw, and Mike Epps as Bernard – Bennie – Upshaw.l, Wanda Sykes as Lucretia Turner, Diamond Lyons as Kelvin Upshaw, Khali Spraggins as Aaliyah Upshaw, Page Kennedy as Duck, Jermelle Simon as Bernard Upshaw, Jr. and Gabrielle Dennis as Tasha Lewis.

The Upshaws Season 2 Release Date

The Upshaws was renewed for a second season in June 2021. The makers have not revealed anything about the pre production and post production work, the new season is expected to premiere sometime towards the end of 2022.

The second season might consist of ten episodes like Season 1 with the same runtime of 25-29 minutes. The makers are yet to reveal further details for the new season.
