2020 has been particularly bad for the entertainment industry. Many series and shows are now delayed and many are in the process of being shelved. The Walking Dead is specifically disturbed due to the continuous lockdown. A season finale has been held hostage by the pandemic. Even the zombies will have to wait for a virus, now that’s ironic.
What is the update regarding The Walking Dead season 10 finale?
The Walking Dead season 10 was already filmed by November in the previous year. Although most of the shooting was already done yet post-production work was underway when the entertainment industry for forced to a standstill by the global pandemic. So the finale episode needed some more work before it could be aired.
AMC tweeted about the season’s finale “Current events have unfortunately made it impossible to complete post-production of The Walking Dead Season 10 finale, so the current season will end with its 15th episode on Sunday, April 5. The planned finale will appear as a special episode later in the year.”
The director of the series Greg Nicotero also explained the importance of post-production work, “You have to edit the episode, then you do sound effects, and then you do music, and then visual effects, and then color timing to make sure all the colors in all the scenes match, and then you have to do a quality check to make sure nothing is messed up. So there are all these steps that have to happen, and generally speaking, the way our production schedule works is those happen up to about three weeks before the episode airs.”

The season 10 finale was expected to be completed by 22 March and ready to be aired. But due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic disruptions in the industry were inevitable. The Walking Dead was not spared from delays and disruption and all work had to be stopped.
Greg Nicotero added “So we just missed that window. It wasn’t that the effects were delayed or anything was delayed. It was just the delivery of the episode that was set to be delivered at a specific date and we had to shut down before they hit that date.”
The director Greg has hyped our expectations regarding the finale episode. He added that “It’s a really amazing episode. I love the way episode 15 ends where you see Beta bringing the herd to the tower where everybody is holed up. There’s a lot teed up, so to speak.”
When will the season 10 finale release?
Yes, the chances are very high. But then it will not be released soon but sometimes later this year when normalcy returns. Any specific date cannot be predicted now at this point in time.
