The Weekend Away: Plot & Cast!
The Weekend Away tells the story of two best friends and what happens when their planned fun vacation takes a turn for the worst. When one of them goes missing, the other must prove her innocence but her efforts to get to the truth uncover painful secrets.
Alderson executive produced this film and Kim Farrant, who previously helmed the Nicole Kidman drama Strangerland in addition to the 2019 thriller Angel of Mine, directed the film.
The trailer for The Weekend Away offers a preview of what viewers can expect, as Beth (Leighton Meester) and Kate (Christina Wolfe) decide to enjoy a weekend in Croatia. Though she is reluctant to take the trip at first since she’s married with a baby, Beth ultimately agrees to tag along with her single friend. The trip starts out wonderfully but becomes a nightmare when Kate’s lifeless body is discovered and Beth emerges as a prime suspect.
People witnessed the pair arguing the night before, Beth’s story keeps on changing and she becomes the prime suspect in her best friend’s murder.
As she tries to piece together parts of the hazy night, she uncovers some startling truths – there were two men that joined them in their hotel room and both of them appear to be connected to an organized crime group.
Along with Wolfe and Meester, known for her portrayal of Blair Waldorf in the original Gossip Girl, and currently recurring on How I Met Your Father as Meredith, The Weekend Away also stars Ziad Bakri, Luke Norris, and Amar Bukvic. The role represents Meester’s return to leading movie roles, as the actress was a main cast member on the ABC sitcom Single Parents for two seasons.
