Under the Banner of Heaven is an upcoming true-crime drama television miniseries. And it is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Jon Krakauer. FX has just unveiled a teaser for its upcoming limited series.

The series is created by Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk, When We Rise). Jon Krakauer, the true-crime bestseller has inspired it. A devout detective’s faith is tested as he investigates a brutal murder that seems to be connected to an esteemed Utah family’s spiral into LDS fundamentalism and their distrust in the government.
Andrew Garfield stars as LDS elder Detective Pyre, with Daisy Edgar-Jones as Brenda, the young, faithful Mormon who is the victim of the murder. While investigating a double murder, he starts to question some of the church’s teachings through his contact with a suspected murderer.
“The evidence points to things and to beliefs that I have only ever heard whisperings about,” Pyre says in the trailer.
The series produced by FX Productions also stars Sam Worthington, Denise Gough, Wyatt Russell, Billy Howle, Gil Birmingham, Adelaide Clemens, Rory Culkin, Seth Numrich, Chloe Pirrie, Sandra Seacat and Christopher Heyerdahl. Black is executive producing with Brian Grazer (Genius, Friday Night Lights), Ron Howard (Genius, Arrested Development) and Anna Culp for Imagine Television; Jason Bateman (A Teacher, Arrested Development) and Michael Costigan (A Teacher, Stoker) of Aggregate Films; David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water, Perfect Sense), who Is also serving as director; and Gillian Berrie (Hell or High Water, Starred Up).

The series is based on a real-life double murder that took place in 1984. Under the Banner of Heaven will premiere later this year on Hulu. However, the release date is not official yet.
