“Upgrade” Film To Be Upgraded as a Blumhouse TV Show

Leigh Whannell’s 2018 Blumhouse sci-fi thriller Upgrade is getting a TV series follow-up. Directed by Leigh Whannell, the TV show that will follow a new host for STEM.

The series is co-created and executive produced by Whannell and Tim Walsh. Blumhouse Television and UCP are teaming up for this adaptation, which has opened a writer’s room containing writers of Blumhouse’s The Purge series – Krystal Ziv Houghton and James Roland. They have already convened to begin adapting the series’ first season.

What Is Upgrade About?

The 2018 film starred Logan Marshall-Green as a man fuelled by vengeance after a mugging that killed his wife leaves him paralyzed.

The only way to take revenge was with the aid of STEM, an advanced chip that heightens physical abilities implanted in Grey that gave him the ability to walk again.

But, Grey learns that STEM is the one who set all of these events into motion. This results in Grey ending with losing control of his body to STEM. Meanwhile, his mind was tricked into believing what he experienced was just a dream. Upgrade’s ended on an ambiguous note. This leaves endless possibilities for the story going forward, one that will now happen as a TV show.

The film was produced for $5 million and grossed more than $16 million at the global box office. Upgrade also received SXSW Audience Award of 2018.

Expected Plot of Upgrade TV Show

The series is expected to pick up a few years after Upgrade where an evolved version of STEM has been repurposed by the government to help curb criminal activity.
