Earlier this month, a Vivo smartphone codenamed “Waterdrop” with a very unique design surfaced online. The Chinese manufacturer today posted an invitation on Weibo revealing the mystery phone will be unveiled on January 24.

The teaser didn’t reveal any details of the smartphone and still don’t have much information about the device. However, a well-known tipster Chinese tipster Ice Universe said before that the upcoming device will “subvert people’s past perception of smartphones”.

Design and Specifications

As for the smartphone, the Vivo Waterdrop is expected to have an edge-to-edge display with the absence of any notch or bezel. From the images, it might shed all the physical buttons and go for a pressure-based integration. The Chinese tipster guaranteed that you “have never seen a similar phone design” and that it is the first time in history when a manufacturer tries something like this. But it still unclear what “this” is.

The design of the smartphone is said to be inspired by the cosmic detector in the novel Three Body. The previously leaked photos only reveal bits and pieces of the handset and we are yet to get a full view of the handset. So, it’s a bit early to form solid opinions. Most flagships that will be released this year will be powered by a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. Apart from this, it may have 10GB of RAM and 512GB internal storage.

There is also a possibility that Vivo will just reveal a concept smartphone like it with the APEX Phone shown at MWC 2018 event. The phone got a complete makeover and was launched as Vivo NEX. So, there is a possibility that the company might follow the same with the “Waterdrop”. We hope this isn’t just marketing hype and the phone will actually “subvert people’s past perception of smartphones”.
