This year the smartphone industry has seen several innovative designs with the Vivo NEX offering a slider selfie shooter following the OPPO Find X flagship with its sliding mechanism. After that ZTE sub-brand, Nubia came up with the Nubia X that got rid of any moving parts and went ahead with a secondary display on the back.
Now, it appears Vivo is very intrigued with this idea as new photos of the NEX 2 shows double displays with one screen each side. Moreover, the renders also seem to have three cameras on the back. This is actually clever because adding a secondary display eliminates the need of front cameras and can invest more on the single camera. The video calling and selfie calling all will be done with the rear camera and you can use the front panel for entertainment and work.
The phone seems to be in development but it’s too early to comment on its specs. It will likely run on SD 845 or SD 8150 and paired with 8GB RAM with around 256GB/512 GB internal storage. The front display seems to be the 6.59 inch AMOLED screen of the Vivo NEX S, while the secondary display will be having 16:9 aspect ratio to clear up space for the triple camera setup on the top and the Vivo logo at the bottom. The Vivo NEX came with a stunning 91% screen-to-body ratio and Vivo NEX 2 seems to offer more than that. Though there are no side bezels, there seems to be a small bezel at the top and bottom to make room for the sensors.
Vivo showcased the full-screen concept smartphone called APEX in MWC 2018 event which was later released as Vivo NEX into the market. There is no confirmation but the Chinese manufacturer might unveil it as a concept phone in MWC 2019 and later launch it around Q2 2019.
