Wedding Crashers 2: Updates about the much awaited sequel!

Wedding Crashers is one of the classic romantic comedy films of the 2000s decade. The film follows the story of two divore mediators who crash weddings to meet and seduce women. The film had an ensemble cast, consisting of Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as the titular wedding crashers. Other members of the cast included Rachel McAdams, Isla Fisher and Bradley Cooper. Will Ferrell also makes a cameo towards the end of the film. The film was both a critical and commercial success. Wedding Crashers had a box office collection of $288 million, against a budget of $40 million. The film is also credited for the revival of the R-rated adult comedy genre.

Ardent fans have forever demanded a sequel be made to the film, and recent news reportings suggest that a sequel to Wedding Crashers just might get made finally.

Wedding Crashers 2 – What we know so far

There have been rumours about a potential sequel to the film for a long time, but none have come close to fruition so far. In 2016, Isla Fisher, who played the role of Gloria Cleary in Wedding Crashers, said that a sequel to the film was being worked on, and in June 2020, Will Ferrell provided an update about the potential sequel. He said this about the sequel-

“Wedding Crashers 2, yeah. I think we can just say it’s being written.”

Rachel McAdams, who played the role of Claire Cleary, has also stated her interest in working with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn again.

“I got to work with Owen again on Midnight in Paris, so that was super fun, and I worked with Vince again on True Detective, now I’m just remembering it…So yeah, it’d be nice to go back and have a romp.”

In another interview, director David Dobkin also stated that he might have been working on a script for the sequel, and said this about a potential Wedding Crashers 2 script-

“We started noodling on it a while ago. We’re unclear yet. Vince has to read it and Owen has to read it. I saw something that seemed like a good start. But there’s no rush to go make that movie.”

With the cast interested, and the director also getting on the bandwagon, fans can hope that the sequel to Wedding Crashers finally gets made someday.
