We’re Here season 2: Release Date, Structure and Others!

Nowadays, the concept of reality shows has turned into more superficial than being more real. There are some shows which are not even linked to everyday life. On the other hand, there had been a minimum representation of the queer or minor community (there had rarely been any show which was only concentrated on the minor representation). But it seems like HBO addressed the issue and gifted us with the American reality series We’re Here,  featuring former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara, and Shangela. The six episodes long series follow an unscripted pattern where “small-town residents are recruited and trained to participate in one-night-only drag performance, and the host-cum-judges will help prepare their “drag daughters” by teaching them how to step outside of their comfort zones.” It premiered on April 23, 2020, and on June 5, 2020, the series was renewed for a second season. And it is not even surprising because why not, who doesn’t love the craziness.

Even though competitive, the show is all about having each others’ back, addressing the struggles of being a ‘drag queen’ in such a restricted society.  The season finale ended with a dive into the queens’ own stories of struggle and perseverance, ending with a celebration of love and taking pride in oneself. We’re Here is created by Stephen Warren and Johnnie Ingram. Season one was directed by Peter LoGreco, who executive produced alongside Warren, Ingram, and Eli Holzman & Aaron Saidman for Industrial Media’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC).

Let’s see what the viewers had to say,

“We’re Here is an astounding, daring, and informative documentation of counterculture’s integration into conservative society. The show captures raw human emotion and offers an essential key to harmonizing a divided society. The project spies into human life using an objective perspective lens. The show undeniably pulls feelings of discomfort, but in the healthiest of ways. This discomfort doesn’t derive from a feeling of being told you’re wrong, but a sense of discomfort from resonating with the unfamiliar reality presented in front of you. It’s the uncomfortable feeling you get when you finally figure out a piece to a puzzle that’s been so obvious all along. I think any queer person who endured small-town conservative life will empathize, and any heterosexual/cisgender person will feel educated.”

Do you know that We’re Here got nominated for Emmy for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program this year?
