The upcoming Batman film has been delayed, thanks to the global pandemic which has brought the entertainment industry to a halt. But we do have some update shared by Andy Serkis. It seems the film will explore the darker roots of the Dark Knight.

The upcoming Batman movie will be directed by Matt Reeves and screenplay will be written by Mattson Tomlin. The film will be the eleventh film in the DC universe. Although the film was initially set to be directed and produced by Ben Affleck. But he handed down the reins to Matt Reeves in 2017. The film will be produced by DC Films and distributed by Warner Bros Pictures.

What details have been shared by Andy Serkis?

Andy Serkis will play the ionic butler Alfred Pennyworth in the upcoming Batman movie. While speaking with LADBible he revealed that the upcoming film will be a lot darker than other films in the franchise. He was also full of praise for the script written by Matt Reeves. Serkis added that “It’s very much about the emotional connection between Alfred and Bruce. That’s really at the center of it. And it is a really exquisite script that Matt has written”.

Andy praised Michael Caine, who played the role of butler in The Dark Knight Trilogy. He said that “His Alfred was legendary, I couldn’t even begin to go there, really. You find it for yourself. It’s like playing these iconic roles in Shakespeare, you go back, you revisit them and you have to make it your own and see what it is about the character that connects with you and your personal Venn diagram.”

The cast of The Batman includes Robert Pattison as The Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dino as Riddler, Colin Farrel as Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Jim, and Jayme Lawrence as Gotham mayoral Bella Real.

Andy was unhappy with how the film was disrupted by the pandemic but hoped that in the end, the film will turn out beautifully.
