What is the Status of ‘The Witcher’ Season 2?

After the massive positive response from the audience, and gaining a heavy fanbase, The Witcher has got the nod from its creators. But unfortunately, by the very curse of the pandemic, the shooting has been compromised and questions are arising about the commencement and the procedure of the shoot, keeping in mind the safety measures. Luckily, there have been updates on the development of the show and the situation seems hopeful.

The show is said to start shooting for the second season from the first week of August, according to Arborfield Studios, and studio’s managing director Bob Terry assured that safety measures would be followed strictly.
But there is no guaranteed date when the second season would be released, and things are yet uncertain. Once filming is done, we can expect several months of post-production to follow.

In the last season, the fantasy serial drama told the story of Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster-hunter for hire, set in the medieval time, journeys toward his destiny in a turbulent world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. It is produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Criticisms took birth and the audience compared it with all-time shows like Game of Thrones and Harry Potter.

According to the showrunner Lauren Hissrich, the life on set is going to significantly change and the process might slow down. In an interview she said,

“We were shooting in the U.K. and were about six weeks into our season when we shut down”, she said “We were literally in the middle of a big sequence we had been preparing for months. But we have a very international crew and it wasn’t just about the health of our crew and our cast, but also getting them back home to their families. So that was at the forefront for us.”

She also added

“Right now, it’s a lot of production meetings, a lot of talking about how to keep people safe… A lot of it is just about flexibility, not just in the planning phases but when we get back on sets. So, the government may say it’s OK to do X or Y, but an actor may say they don’t feel comfortable doing that. And that’s always going to be our first concern.”

But this big break turned out to be a blessing for the creators since it gave them enough time to re-think scenes and add elements to the character developments in the show. New faces would be introduced to the new season.

The Witcher’s Second Season Will Be About Family from television

The Witcher is front lined by Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, Eamon Farren, Anya Chalotra, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Royce Pierreson, Mimi Ndiweni, Anna Shaffer, Mahesh Jadu and many more.
