What makes WWE to cancel WWE 2k21?

WWE 2K, also known as the WWE/WWF, is a series of professional wrestling sports simulation video games developed and released annually since 2000. The games feature storylines and wrestlers. The last releases were WWE 2k20 in October 2019.

But disappointing news is coming from the WWE Universe for the die heart fans of the game. The WWE has officially confirmed that the next WWE 2K game is canceled. WWE 2k21 will not be released management says on earning calls.

What can we expect

2K games are set to share details on the future of the franchise this Monday with the possible unveiling of an alternative wrestling game.

If 2K does discontinue producing wrestling games in the near future, there will certainly be a lot of development in contention for the role. One possible prospective developer is EA.

EA could present WWE totally different than anyone else. With a focus on the sporting side of the business, EA WWE can create new engaging gameplay.

Previous developers

From 2000 to 2012 the publisher was THQ.  It was co-developed by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts from WWE 2K19 until WWE 2K20 when Yuke’s had left the development team. Technical limitations had occurred through the series which lead the developers to adjust custom characters while loading. When new features are added to WWE 2K games, developers have to create new gaming codes for the features.

Poorly Received WWE 2K20

WWE 2K20 had problems with almost every feature, ranging from severe lag in the online modes, incorrectly labeled music, the game not recognizing ownership of DLC, and prompts randomly displaying in instances when they shouldn’t appear. So the poor performance of WWE 2K20 is one of the possible reasons for the cancellation of 2K20.

Future of WWE 2K series

It appears that another WWE game can be released, as the official WWE 2K account on twitter gave a heads up for an incoming announcement. It remains to be seen what kind of WWE of project 2K games has planned. Fans will have to wait for the official announcement, but there are rumors that it will not be a wrestling simulator.

Former Smackdown vs raw writer Justin Leeper posted a video about WWE 2K21 being canceled nearly a week before it was made official. WWE 2K developer Yuke’s has teased the possibility of releasing a new kind of wrestling game outside of the WWE brand.
