What To Know About Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘In The Heights’

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first musical In The Heights is finally getting a film adaptation! Miranda has been trying to get a film adaptation of the thirteen years old musical for a long time, and now it is finally about to be here (albeit a little late due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

It was earlier about to be produced by The Weinstein Production Company, but due to the sexual misconduct allegations and later imprisonment of felon Harvey Weinstein, it was further delayed.

In The Heights is an upcoming American musical film based on the musical of the same name by Quiara Alegria Hudes and Lin Manuel Miranda. Jon M. Chu directed the film while Quiara Alegria Hudes wrote the screenplay.

Lin Manuel Miranda, Quiara Alegria Hudes, Scott Sanders, Anthony Bregman, and Mara Jacobs produced the film while 5000 Broadway Productions, Likely Story, Scott Sanders Productions and Warner Bros. Pictures serve as the production companies for the film.

In The Heights: Plot and Cast

Warner Bros. Pictures released a synopsis for the film, which is detailed as such:

“Lights up on Washington Heights… The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.”

Anthony Ramos plays Usnavi De La Vega while Corey Hawkins plays Benny, and Leslie Grace stars as Nina Rosario. Melissa Bañera plays Vanessa while Olga Merediz plays Abuela Claudia.
