What’s up with Fright Fest 2020?

Published

on

Fright Fest is more than just a film festival. An event where piles of rabid horror fans can’t all crowd outside the local pub and head to the Phoenix Arts Bar. Not just that but arguing about horror movies till the small hours just wouldn’t be the same.

Fright Fest 2020 was supposed to be taking place during August Bank Holiday weekend.  But now the festival has been postponed to October.

What’s happening now?

UK horror celebration announced that Fright Fest, which is an annual five-day event, that takes place in August isn’t going to happen. Now, the plan is to extend the annual Halloween event. This piece of news comes as no surprise. Because of Covid-19 and the need for social distancing, many major events across the UK and the US have been on hold. The organizers are planning to expand their traditional all-day Halloween event certainly at the end of October.

This year would have marked the 21st year of the annual horror event. The event usually takes place in London’s Leicester event and attracts fans and talents from all over the world.

Co-director Alan Jones said: “Sadly, we won’t be able to come together and celebrate our 21st year in the summer but rest assured, we will make our London Halloween event one remember.”

“Fright Fest has always been about the genre community joining together, not just to embrace films but to demonstrate our unique spirit of supportive closeness”, said Alan Jones.

Graham Humphries, who is a veteran horror artist and Fright Fest regular, designed this year’s piece of bespoke art. It is a design that speaks both the pandemic and the change in date.

He commented,” The image presented a huge challenge.”

Graham continued, “Not only had the pandemic erased any hope of a regular FrightFest schedule, but the possibility of a Halloween event needed to be addressed. This year’s monster needed to consider his Covid-19 response with a mask and goggles. The poster for Halloween II inspired a way to present the full face without risking infection! Is the bat his friendly familiar – or the bringer of pestilence? You decide!”
