When can we expect the next season of ‘Queen of the South’?

Last year this time, the American crime drama television series, Queen of the South, just got over with the fourth season, and soon on August 29, 2019, the show was renewed for the fifth season. It is created by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller and dates back to June 23, 2016, and was premiered on the USA Network. The series is an adaptation of the telenovela La Reina del Sur, which airs on USA’s sister network Telemundo, and also an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. The last season ended on a great note, and now the fans are eagerly waiting for the next new one, but unfortunately, the production of the fifth one came to a halt on March 14, 2020, due to the pandemic, keeping the rule of social distancing in mind. Seems like we need to wait for a long, long time.

Queen of the South tells the powerful story of Teresa Mendoza, a woman who is forced to run and seek refuge in America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. In the process, she teams up with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run. The show received much acclamation because of the presentation of women of color. The cliffhangers and twists keep the audience on the edge of the seat. The characters have a great scope of development over the whole period. It is a paradise for the action series lovers. Even though initially it proceeds slowly, but soon takes up the speed and moves ahead quickly.

The show is available on both Netflix and Disney+. Netflix UK is typically one of the first regions to receive the latest seasons. Soon, it will be available in other countries, like Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Japan, South Korea, and many more.

The show got mixed reviews, with 7.9 on IMDb and 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Rotten Tomatoes, “Queen of the South enlivens an overdone premise with action and narrative vigor—and shows hints of intriguing potential.”

The show bagged several awards like Best Primetime Television Series – Drama, Best Supporting Actor – Television (Imagen Awards), and Film or Show Written By a Woman (WIN Awards).

The success of any show lies in the hands of the artists, and Queen of the South has got its lucky charms. The fans are expecting a lot many twists in the next season. With the clash between Teresa and Judge Lafayette and Javier’s confession about the murder of the judge’s nephew, the show gave us goosebumps and adrenaline rushes. The last session ended with a much needed and also not-so-needed cliffhangers. But it seems like the pandemic might ruin stuff for a long time. Till then, enjoy the previous ones and try to find out the missing parts.
