Batwoman is an American superhero TV series created by Caroline Dries which is based on DC Comics’ character Batwoman, and continue with other TV series called Arrow-verse. The first season of the series was premiered on 6 October 2019 on The CW. Batwoman follows Kate Kane played by Ruby Rose defeating her demons and past to become Gotham City’s new symbol of hope as Batwoman. After the successful season one, Ruby Rose left the show, and it happened first time in the history of Arrow-verse that a lead has to be replaced. Her reason for departure is not known because she is staying silent on the matter. According to reports, she was unhappy filming for long hours, but there is more to the story which is not known yet.
Since Ruby’s departure, the CW began searching for a lead actress who is a member of the LGBTQ community. Here are six actresses from the LGBTQ community who could possibly replace Ruby Rose as Kate Kane in Batwoman.
Stephanie Beatriz is better known as Detective Rosa Diaz in the comedy sitcom, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She is also starring in a musical called In the Heights directed by Lin Manuel Miranda. She expressed her interest in playing the role of Batwoman. The actress is brilliant and can pull off the iconic roles, and as Rosa she is tough but with a soft side. Stephanie is openly bisexual.
Evan Rachel Wood is also openly bisexual and identified herself as Jewish which will be a good choice as Kate Kane is Jewish as well. She is better known for playing Dolores Abernathy in HBO’s series called, Westworld. Her other work includes as a voice over artist in Frozen 2, a stint in HBO’s True Blood and also starred in a movie called, Thirteen. Evan has experience in carrying on a show, she is talented and might be a good choice for the role.
Samira Wiley is better known for her role as Poussey Washington in Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black. Her recent work is Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Samira is openly gay and without doubt she can pull off the role of Batwoman with her immensely brilliant capability of balancing dark emotions and humor with a distinctive onscreen appearance. Isn’t Samira Wiley a perfect fit for Gotham City?
Jade Tailor of Syfy’s The Magicians where she played the role of Kady is another great actress for the role of Batwoman. She showed her interest in playing the role of Kate Kane and even posted a video of herself rehearsing a fight scene, which is clearly proved that she is ready to fight the demons of Gotham City.
Sonya Deville is a wrestler and a martial artist, not exactly an actress who rose to fame with WWE’s Tough Enough and appearances on Smackdown. She is the first openly gay wrestler. It is quite certain that she will nail the fight scenes in Batwoman.
Ashley Platz is best known for her role as Nurse Katie in the 2018 horror movie, Big Legend. She identifies as bisexual/pansexual. She auditioned for the role of Batwoman in 2018, she was wonderful. It is might be possible that The CW will choose the replacement from the previous auditions.
Batwoman season one ended with an impressive cliffhanger, and fans couldn’t wait to see what the next season has in store, but they have to wait a little longer as it is not returning before 2021 which leaves a lot of time to cast a replacement for Ruby Rose. Let’s wait and find out our new Batwoman sooner this year!
