Netflix did a great job this time with the shift from the mainstream races to talking about the other immigrant races of America. Mindy Kaling introduced us to the American-Indian high school teenager Devi Vishwakumar, played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, discussing about the typical things of an Indian family and the struggles of a brown kid. Kaling said that the story is inspired from her own life and will be relatable to a large proportion of people. The story highlights the narrative of a teenager, where she wants to brush off her nerd personality and pin the tag “cool” in order to get recognised amongst the students. With the death of her father and suffering a temporary paralysis during her freshman, she wants to kick start her sophomore year.
With the success of the first season, the fans are awaiting for the next one. The series for famous amongst the Browns especially and says as if they are witnessing their own lives through Devi. Will, Netflix and the show’s producers did not announce anything about the new season but they are very much postive and optimistic about it. They promise that the show will return with a lot more drama. Maitreyi said in an interview that she has no clue about any new season but she is pinning one for it. She expects Devi to return with more appreciation towards her family and friends and accepts and embraces her South-Asian culture and also moves on from her traumatic past.
Alongside Maitreyi, Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani, Ramona Young, Lee Rodriguez, Darren Barnet, Jaren Lewison stars the show along with John Enroe doing the voice over.
